Lost in Translation

My aim was to relate French culture to a non-French person’s perspective. I used illustrations to create a relatable ground for transcending cultural differences.

Investigating the communication between cultures, I focused on French culture, its language and how those are perceived. Language is one of the most eloquent argument on cultural differences as it shapes the way one thinks. This was personal to me, as the miscommunications created by poor translations happened to me a fair amount of times.

The project ‘Lost in Translation’ focuses on visual idioms, so as to create a relatable ground to communicate. Through literal translation of idioms, a sense of wonder is created and expresses a backbone of French humour. The posters has been printed on canvas to represent a feel of traditional culture.
